Typhoon Odette Relief Operations
"Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others"
December 17, 2021 - An unforgettable tragedy has happened. Typhoon Odette coming into the Philippine Area of Responsibility. A Typhoon Category 2 that within hours jumped to a Category 5. Winds gustling more than 200kph.
With preparations for Category 5 Typhoon already too late, Odette hit majority of Visayas and some parts of Mindanao. After several hours, she left Visayas and Mindanao with a lot of homeless people. She destroyed thousands of homes, business establishments. Odette left people with no power, no water, no food, no homes, and devastatingly to some she left them taking away family members.
The World Association of Master Chefs with its Philippine Chapter knew that something needed to be done.
With the collaborative efforts of our partners in Dumaguete City namely Sobremesa Restaurant, Institute for Culinary & Business Management, Silverios Cafe & Bistro, and Anarchy Burger Bistro we were able to launch our first round of Relief Operations to severely hit areas in Negros Oriental.
Donations and support poured in from The Global Office c/o President Gaven Ferguson, The Philippine Chapter, Sir Fred Magno of Zahocho Knives Tokyo, Chef Lois Macorol, Hajji Gantuangco.
Our Team packed up the following essentials
- Rice
- Coffee
- Mineral Water & Juices
- Canned Goods
- Shampoo, Soap, Laundry Detergent
- Candies & Biscuits (For Kids)
- Claypots (for Cooking)
- Charcoal to fuel said Claypots
With the collaboration of different team members, we were able to provide help to 40 families total in areas of Bindoy, Manjuyod, and Bais. The same team will be gearing up for a Round 2 of Relief Operations after our Buffet Dinner for a Cause Event.
